Sculpture Young man on bicycle listening to music Visitpandivere.ee

This sculpture is dedicated to Arvo Pärt, famous Estonian composer, who spent his formative years and began his musical studies in Rakvere. It was inspired by the man himself, from a time when he would ride his bicycle to the Market Square (now Central Square) and listen to the radio programmes and music being broadcast from a loudspeaker on top of a telephone post. The broader message of the sculpture is that every child can become a well-known and respected composer, scientist, or representative of any profession. The sculpture was unveiled to mark the composers 75th birthday on 11 September 2010. Good to know: Pärts piece for bells, Kyrie, plays from the tower of Trinity Church at Pikk 19 every day at noon.
