Lahemaa National Park was established in 1971 and has been established for the preservation, research and introduction of the natural and cultural heritage, biological diversity, landscapes, national culture and sustainable use of nature in Northern Estonia. Forest, swamp and coastal ecosystems as well as historical and architectural monuments are protected here. Lahemaa is one of the most important forest protection areas in Europe.
